A funeral service was held at First Baptist Church (Bute street) on Wednesday 
for Mrs. Pattie Bridgeford Custis, 85, who died at her home at 914 Gordon avenue 
on Feb. 11.

The Rev Dr. E. Paul Simms officiated at the rites.  Burial was in Calvary 
Cemetery under direction of the Riddick Funeral Service.

A native of Warrenton, NC, Mrs. Custis was a member of First Baptist and served 
on the deaconess board and in the church’s Missionary Circle, Sisters of 
Charity, Ida W. Bagnall Federation Club, and Hamper Basket Exchange were among 
her other affiliations.

She is survived by two sons, Fred Custis of New York City and Wilson Custis of 
Norfolk ;  two daughters, Mrs. Laura Morgan and Mrs. Lydia Stallings of Norfolk;  
five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
