Born in Elizabeth City, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Ishomel and India Barco and the widow of Wilson W. Custis. She was owner and operator of Your Glory Beauty Salon in the Huntersville section of Norfolk for more than 30 years. Additionally, she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bute Street, where she served as a member on the No. 2 Usher Board. Discerning a need for a Memorial Usher Board, she became its founder in 1990. Also, she was the recipient of the W.A.L.L.S. Women Allied Laisons Leaders of Strength Award. Mrs. Custis is survived by her daughter, Patsy C. McClain; sisters, Audrey B. Jackson of Chesapeake and Lydia Stallings of Norfolk; brothers, Maurice Barco of Chesapeake and Solomon Barco of Norfolk; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends. The funeral will be conducted today at noon in First Baptist Bute Street by the Rev. Gloria Newsome Dowtin. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. She will lie in repose at 10 a.m. at the church. Graves Funeral Home is in charge.
