A native of Edenton, N.C., she was a daughter of Jerry and Mrs. Nancy Satterfield and the widow of Wayman Louis Custus. She lived in Norfolk 62 years. She was a member of Samaritan Bloom of Youth Court; Courts of Calanthe 194; Virginia State Federation, Colored Women's Clubs, and Hamper Basket Club. She was a member more than 50 years of First Baptist Church on Bute Street and served as a deacon sister in the Missionary Circle and member of the Know- Nothing Club and Sunday School 50-Year Club. Surviving are two sons, George W. Custus and James Louis Custus of New York City; three daughters, Mrs. Bessie Simmons and Mrs. Gladys Doss of Norfolk and Mrs. Marion D. Henderson of New York City; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Dobbins of Brooklyn and Mrs. Ethel Jefferson of Englewood, N.J.; a brother, Frederick Satterfield of New York City; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The body was taken to Hale Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held in First Baptist Church on Bute Street Sunday at 1:30 p.m. by the Rev. E. Paul Simms, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
