                         G. L. CUTHRIELL DROWNED SUNDAY

         Went Swimming In Carolina Stream And Was Caught In A Whirlpool

Grover L. Cuthriell, son of Police Captain George L. Cuthriell, of No. 161 Wood 
Street, was caught in a whirlpool while in swimming in a stream at Rocky Mount, 
N.C., Sunday afternoon and was drowned.
The body reached Norfolk yesterday afternoon and the funeral services will be 
held this afternoon at 4 o'clock from the family residence, the same being 
conducted by Rev. W.G. Starr, pastor of the Cumberland Street Methodist Church, 
assisted by Rev. T.J. Taylor of the Queen Street Methodist Church.
At the time Mr. Cuthriell was drowned, he was in the sight of several of his 
friends, but they were unable to rescue him.  The father was immediately 
notified.
When the body arrived in Norfolk it was carried to the funeral establishment of 
H.C. Smith on Bank Street and prepared for burial, being later removed to the 
family residence.
The deceased was twenty-four years of age and was a machinist by trade.  About 
two weeks ago he went to Rocky Mount and secured employment in the shops of the 
Atlantic Coast Line.  He had many friends in Norfolk.

CUTHRIELL - At Rocky Mount, N.C., Sunday August 22, 1909, GROVER L., son of 
Capt. G.L. and Annie E. Cuthriell, aged 24 years.
The funeral will take place from the residence, 161 Wood Street, THIS (Tuesday) 
AFTERNOON, August 24, at 4 o'clock.  Friends of the family respectfully invited 
to attend.
