Virginian-Pilot November 9, 1942
Mrs. Elizabeth Godwin Dabney, aged 72, widow of W. H. Dabney, and daughter of 
the late Joseph G. and Mrs. Elizabeth Gay Crumpler, died at Asheboro, N.C., 
Saturday morning at 10:45 o’clock. Mrs. Dabney was a native of Southampton 
County, and a resident of Virginia Beach for the past 29 years. Surviving her 
are two daughters, Mrs. W. C. Gettel, of Star, N.C., and Miss Adelia H. Dabney, 
of Virginia Beach, and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel of the H. D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments, 1501 Colonial avenue, this afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, with the Rev. 
Stiles B. Lines, rector of Galilee Episcopal Church, Virginia Beach, of which 
Mrs. Dabney was a member, and the Rev. R. W. Eastman, officiating. Burial will 
be in Elmwood Cemetery.
