Joan Dennison Daffron, born June 24, 1940, died peacefully in her sleep, July 
10, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Joan is survived by her loving (and 
patient) husband of 64 years, James (Jim) F. Daffron, Sr. Left to cherish her 
memory are her children, Suzy Daffron Allen (Jonathan), James (Jim) F. Daffron, 
Jr. (Tricia), Tricia Daffron Chappell (Chip), and Tim Daffron (Denise). She is 
also survived by her grandchildren Adam, Kelli & David Daffron, Bud Chappell & 
Katherine Matthews, Mike Murray, Grayson, Clayton & Hannah Dare Daffron and 
Meyon Burns.  She was also blessed with 9 great-grandchildren. Joan was 
predeceased by her parents, Dr. Stanley S. & Dorothy Dennison, her sisters, Joy 
Bischoff and her identical twin, Judy Tucci.
As her husband Jim recently commented, Joan put the spice (both hot & sweet) in 
the Daffron family and will be deeply missed by her family, countless friends, 
neighbors, and colleagues at Indian River High School. The family would also 
like to thank Joan’s caregivers for their devoted love and care.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 
2024, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 154 West Government Ave., Norfolk, VA 
23503.  A private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to Holy 
Trinity Catholic Church or any charity that speaks to your family’s heart.
