Dagner, Sr., of 2534 Middle street, who died at the age of 70, October 1 at Norfolk General Hospital, were held at 1 p.m. October 4 at the Bank Street Baptist Church. His death followed a short illness, until which he had been very active. The Rev. J. R. Williams, pastor of the Trinity Baptist Church,delivered the eulogy. Interment was made in Calvary Cemetery with B. F. King, funeral director, in charge. Mr. Dagner was prominent in religious and civic activities, as well as a retired employee of the Norfolk and Western Railroad. For 31 years he had been a member of the Metropolitan Social and Literary Club, which group had charge of the burial rites. He was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church. In 1935 he retired from active duty with the Norfolk and Western railroad, but was president of the Brakeman’s Association at the time of his death. The retirement became effective on June 1,1935, after service of 44 years and three months. The Rev. H. T. Miles and the Rev. Mr. Lee were heard reading the Scriptures and the obituary. Active pallbearers were William Robinson, Jesse Crocker, Reuben Davenport, Joseph Taylor, and G. E. Peace.
