Dailey died in the county jail at Portsmouth yesterday afternoon at 12:20 o'clock from the effects of a self-inflicted pistol shot, fired after he had shot and killed his sister, Mrs. William Dudley, at her home near Fentress, Norfolk County, Thursday night. The shooting of Mrs. Dudley is understood to have resulted from disappointment on the part of her brother over her marriage to Dudley, which was solemnized a few weeks ago. A letter found on the person of the dead man was to the effect that he contemplated the death of his sister and suicide afterwards. This letter was addressed to a brother at Hopewell. Dailey went to the home of his sister yesterday afternoon, it is said, and found her alone. It is not known what words passed between them, but three shots were fired, two of which took effect over the heart of the woman. She ran screaming into the yard, closely followed by her brother. It was at this juncture that the fourth shot was fired and which resulted in the death of Dailey. Dr. A.M. Burfoot, of Fentress, was called, but found the woman dead when he arrived. Dailey was carried to the house and revived and was removed to the county jail. The body of Dailey had not been claimed late last night. Dailey is the man recently arrested charged with mistreating his sister. His sister testified in Police court against him, but when the case came up in Corporation court she swore differently and he was discharged. Mrs. Dudley's maiden name was Vashti Dailey and when she recently caused her brother's arrest, she told the police that he took her from an orphan asylum and that they had been living in Norfolk for some time. Dailey was brought to the Norfolk county jail in Portsmouth at 6 o'clock yesterday morning. His condition at that time was very grave. Three hours after his arrival he lapsed into unconsciousness and shortly after 12 o'clock he died. It was stated at the jail yesterday that no report of the shooting was made there until Dailey was brought from Fentress. Neither was Sheriff Ferebee informed of the tragedy until that time. Dailey's brother, said to be in Hopewell, has been informed of his death, but up to last night the body was unclaimed. **************************************************************************** Victim Of Shooting To Be Buried Today The body of George W.
