He was a native of Rosedale, Northampton County, and had resided in Norfolk 63 years. He was connected with the Pocahontas Fuel Company, in the wholesale and retail coal business. He was well known to men identified with the coal and shipping trade and was considered an expert on various matters pertaining to his particular work. A son of the late John Calvin Dalby and Mrs. Mary Ann Saunders Dalby, he was a communicant of the Ghent Methodist Church and an honorary member of the board of stewards. Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. L. Berry Dodson, Jr., Miss Annie Lee Dalby and Mrs. Herman L. Wright, and a brother, John Calvin Dalby, all of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Thomas D. Heyl, of Charlottesville, and three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, with the Rev. Frank L. Wells, D.D., superintendent of the Norfolk Methodist District, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
