James H. Dalby, son of our esteemed townsman, John F. Dalby, Esq., took place from the Chestnut Street M.E. Church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock and was very largely attended, the church being taxed to its utmost to accommodate the large gathering who came to pay the last sad tribute of respect to the deceased. The services were conducted by Rev. W.C. Vaden, assisted by Revs. W.G. Starr, W.E. Edwards, J.T. Whitley, W.E. Evans and Robert Gatewood. The prayer by Rev. W.G. Starr, of Cumberland Street Church, Norfolk, was very beautiful and touching. The remarks by Rev. W.C. Vaden, of the life of the deceased from childhood to the time of his death, brought tears to nearly every eye. He was buried with Masonic honors by Berkley Lodge 167. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: Revs. J.B. Merritt, J.W. Carroll, G.W. Wray, C.H. Green, and Messrs. W.W. Robertson and Charles Gibbs.
