The Norfolk Virginian Pilot June 20, 1940


Mrs. Georgie Holmes Dalby, wife of John Calvin Dalby and daughter of the late 
John S. and Mary Hendren Holmes, a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, 
died at 10:45 o’clock Tuesday night at her residence, 1516 Trouville Avenue, 
Meadowbrook. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Calvin Holmes 
Dalby; one granddaughter, Anne Vicar Dalby, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the chapel of the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 
Colonial Avenue, this afternoon at 3 o’clock, with the Rev. Sparks W. Melton, 
D.D., pastor of Freemason Street Baptist Church, of which Mrs. Dalby was a 
member, officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
