July 2024 Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and Friend. Margaret Helen Daly went home to The Lord on 6/26/24. A lifelong resident of Norfolk, VA, Margaret graduated from Granby High School in 1964. She went on to graduate from Tidewater Community College with an AS in Business Administration. Margaret enjoyed a long career as a bookkeeper and then as an Accounts Receivable Specialist, finally retiring from the Sentara Hospital network. But her job wasn’t her life. Her people were. Margaret loved big. And was loved big in return. Margaret was blessed to have more families than just blood. She loved her sons and their families, her church family, and every pet she met. This love shined through her entirety. Where some people have an ‘open door’ policy, Margaret had an open-heart policy. Her heart was open to all the Lord’s creatures. She was a devout member of The Episcopal Church of Ascension in Norfolk. For years she volunteered at the church’s Day School and adored every child as if they were her own grandchildren. Every new baby at church was greeted with a handmade quilt and lots of snuggles from Margaret! As an avid scrapbooker, she made many keepsakes for so many families that they cherish to this day. Additionally, Margaret put her accounting experience to work by running the Church’s Food Pantry for many years, feeding countless families in need in the area. She was a notorious animal lover and gave generously to any and all charities that benefit all animals (even exotic ones!). Margaret was the loving owner of many cats over the years. She also loved and fed any strays that came by her house. All the neighborhood cats knew where to come for a free meal and lots of cuddling! Margaret loved her cats, but she loved all animals, especially her “grand-dogs” and “great-grand-dogs”. She was known in the family as “the Treat Lady.” In her spare time, Margaret and her Husband, Don, loved to travel. Their favorite mode of traveling was by cruise ship with a group of their close friends from church, “The Ascension Navy,” and school. They visited all over the world. The scrapbooks she painstakingly made read like a travelogue! Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband Donald Daly and her Mother Elizabeth Burris West. She is survived by her sons, David (M. Jaye) and Michael (Tracey), as well as her Grandchildren: Courtney, Alex, James, Kara and Matthew, and her Great-Grandson Augustus, as well as countless Godchildren and “adopted” grandkids. The family will receive visitors at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments chapel, 1501 Colonial Ave., Norfolk, VA 23517 on Friday, August 2nd from 6:00 – 8:00pm. The celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 3rd at 10:00am at the H.D. Oliver chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Norfolk SPCA or The Southeastern Virginia Alzheimer’s Association.
