Susan (Styron) Daniels passed away at her home in Virginia Beach on July 29, 
2025. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on July 11, 1966. Styron grew up in 
Virginia Beach and lived in various places, including North Carolina and Oregon, 
before returning home in 2022.
Styron is survived by her children, Paul Stephenson, Brandon Stephenson, and 
Emily-Rae Daniels, as well as her mother, Susie Rixey; and her brother, John 
Schafer. She was preceded in death by her father, William J. Schafer; her 
grandparents, Tom and Emily Sheffield; and her beloved longtime companion, Ogden 
(OD) King.
A graduate of First Colonial High School, Styron went on to attend Virginia 
Commonwealth University (VCU), a chapter of her life she cherished. Known for 
her free spirit, Styron had a deep love for animals, the ocean, and tending to 
her plants, but she was just as at home in a room full of people. She loved good 
company, told great stories, and had a sharp wit that made her the life of the 
party. Her presence brought energy and laughter wherever she went.
In her memory, donations may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA, a cause close
