Dashiell died at 3:45 o'clock yesterday morning in the residence of his son, T.E. Dashiell, 207 London Street at the age of 71 years. He was one of the city's prominent citizens and for many years was agent for the Baltimore Steam Packet Company in this city, succeeding the late L.W. Thomas in that position in 1890. The funeral service will take place at 3 o'clock this afternoon in St. Paul's Protestant Episcopal Church in Berkley. Burial will take place later in Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley. Mr. Dashiell was the son of George H. and Atalanta F. Dashiell and was born at New Church, Accomack County, Va., but moved to Norfolk County when a young man and lived in Berkley up tot the time he was appointed as agent of the Old Bay Line in this city. Since that time he has lived in Portsmouth. He is survived by one son, Mr. T.E. Dashiell. He was a member of Stonewall Camp, Confederate Veterans of this city, and from the files of the camp, Adjutant Shannon yesterday compiled the following data concerning Mr. Dashiell's war record: "Thomas J. Dashiell entered the Confederate States Army on the 20th day of April, 1861, as a private in the Old Dominion Guards, later known as Company K, Ninth Virginia Infantry Regiment, Armistead's Brigade, Pickett's Division, Army of Northern Virginia. He was promoted to sergeant and participated in the following battles: Seven Pines, Malvern Hill, Warrenton Springs, Second Manassas, Harpers Ferry, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Suffolk, Gettysburg, in which battle he was captured, and when exchanged rejoined his command in front of Bermuda Hundreds; was wounded March 31, 1865, at Dinwiddie Courthouse and captured at Five Forks." Stonewall Camp, Confederate Veterans, is ordered out to attend his funeral. ****************************************************************************** The funeral service of Thomas J. Dashiell, who died last Wednesday morning, in the residence of his son, T.E. Dashiell, 207 London Street, took place at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, in St. Paul's Protestant Episcopal Church, Berkley, and was quite largely attended. Rev. Pembroke W. Reed, rector of the church, conducted the service, at the conclusion of which the body was conveyed to the Magnolia Cemetery, where burial took place. The pallbearers were D.V. Allen and George T. Wrenn, representing the Knights of Pythias and W.L. Berkley, Carl Colonna, J.W. Ashton and C.J. Colonna. There were numerous floral tokens of respect and esteem.
