Norfolk Virginian Pilot March 15, 1948

Nelson W. Davenport, Sr., 48 husband of Mrs. Mary Sweeney Davenport and son of 
the late Charles and Mrs. Ida E. Whitney Davenport, a native of Portsmouth and a 
resident of Norfolk for 40 years, died yesterday at 2:45 p.m. at his residence, 
119 West Belvedere Road.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Nelson W. Davenport, Jr., of 
Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Marguerite Cain, of South Carolina and Mrs. Nellie 
Meeker, of San Diego, Calif. and a nephew, William Ryder of Norfolk. 
Mr. Daven ort was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
The body was taken to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments.

DAVENPORT, NELSON W. SR. - At the residence No. 119 West Belvedere Road, Sunday, 
March 14th 1948, at 2:45 o'clock p.m., NELSON W. husband of Mrs. Mary Sweeney 
Davenport and son of the late Charles and Mrs. Ida E. Whitney Davenport, in the 
49th year of his age. 
Remains were taken to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, No. 1501 Colonial 
Avenue, pending arrangements.

Nelson W. Davenport, Sr. — Funeral services for Mr. Davenport, who died Sunday, 
will be conducted at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments today at 3:30 p. m. by 
the Rev. Dr. Taylor Willis, rector of Christ and St. Luke’s Church. Burial will 
be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
