C6 NORFOLK - Funeral services for Rueben Reid Davenport, 78, were held recently from Bethlehem Baptist Church. The Rev. J. Q. A. Lassiter, pastor, was in charge. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Hale Funeral Home was in charge. A retired railroad brakeman, Mr. Davenport died at his home, 1308 Hanson avenue, after a short illness. He was a native of Spout Spring, Va. and had lived in Norfolk for 60 years. He was the widower of Mrs. Annie Higgs and the husband of Mrs. Annie Teamer Davenport. He had belonged to Bethlehem Baptist Church for several years and was a member of the male usher board. The deceased also belonged to Eastern Light Lodge No. 4. A. F. of A.M. Shriners and was a 33rd degree Mason. He served as chairman on several committees for the Norfolk and Western Colored Veterans Committee. Survivors include three sons, Peter of Norfolk; Thomas and John Davenport of Brooklyn; two daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Watson and Mrs. Rebecca Flowers of Brooklyn; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Mary L. Davis of Norfolk; Mrs. Alice Robinson, Brooklyn; and Mrs. Lettie Kyles, Amityville, L.I.N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Florine H. Lee and Mrs. Eva Davenport, Norfolk; one God child, Charlotte Annette Long; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
