The Rev. Herbert C. Hill, acting pastor, officiated. One report was that Bernard and several boys were playing near the ditch, and he fell into about six feet of water. Bernard, who would have been ten years old on July 15, was in the 4-H grade at the Bowling Park School. Mrs. Dorothy Davis, Bernard's mother, who stuck a nail in her left foot Wednesday, was at Norfolk General Hospital when the tragedy occurred. Survivors, in addition to the mother, are Bernard's father, Bernard Louis Davis; three brothers, Stanton, 8; Frank Gleen, 6, and Lamont,5; one sister, Patricia Ann, 18 months; both grandmothers, Mrs. Ida Ruffin and Mrs. Gustine Fleming, Norfolk; one great grandfather, both great-grandmothers, four uncles, two aunts, several cousins and other relatives. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with Hale's Funeral Home in charge.
