Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - April 17, 2011
 PORTSMOUTH - Varena Hammonds Davis, 84, was born Aug. 26, 1926 in Anderson, 
S.C., to Minnie Hammonds. She entered into eternal sleep after a short illness 
April 11, 2011 at Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her son, 
Leon Hammonds (Willie Mae) of Portsmouth and grandson, Steven Hammonds of 
Virginia Beach. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry C. Davis; aunt and 
uncle, Janie and Jessie Wilson of Portsmouth. The funeral will be held at 11 
a.m. Monday, April 18, at Community Funeral Home Chapel, Norfolk. Viewing will 
be today from noon to 5 p.m. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
