Norfolk Journal and Guide, May 20,1961
Funeral service was held Wednesday, May 17, 2 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church for 
Mrs. Velma Davis, who died Saturday, May 13.  The Rev. W. L. Hamilton, pastor, 
officiated.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, under direction of Riddick Funeral 
Service.

Mrs. Davis, of 1533 Armstrong street, was a native of Norfolk.

She is survived by her husband, John P. Davis;  seven children, John P. Davis 
Jr. of Maryland, Milton E. Davis, stationed in Germany;  Mrs. Florence D. 
Ferguson, Isaac, Mary Jane, Beulah and Alexina Davis;  four sisters, Mrs. Carrie 
Phelps of Norfolk, Mrs.Aleph Simms and Mrs. Mary Jenkins of Washington and Mrs. 
Annie Robinson of Petersburg;  one aunt, Mrs. Annie Rooks;  and other relatives.
