Davis, 85, of 1200 S. Alfred St., retired investment banker and executive with the Reconstruction Finance Corp., died early Tuesday in his home. A native of Mathews County, he was the husband of Mrs. Virginia Waller Davis. Mrs. Davis formerly was a correspondent for The Virginian-Pilot. Davis retired in 1959 from RFC after serving in Richmond, New York, and Philadelphia offices. A former Norfolk resident, he was an officer with 350th Infantry Regiment, 80th Division, during World War I. After the Armistice, he served as acting town mayor in the South of France. After World War I, he came to Norfolk and headed the Davis-West Trust Co., later going with RFC. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Alexandria, and a past commander of Junius F. Lynch VFW Post, Ocean View. Besides his widow, survivors include nieces and nephews. After a service at noon today in Demaine Funeral Home, Alexandria, the body will be sent to H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, for another service Thursday at noon by the Rev. A. Heath Light of Christ and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Burial will be in the family plot of Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk.
