A. Davis were somewhat surprised on yesterday morning to learn of his sudden death, which took place at 4 a.m. yesterday. He was employed as a foreman at the new drydock, where he had a host of friends. Mr. D. has been suffering for some time. First, he had malarial fever, then a congestive chill, which was followed by pneumonia. He had entirely recovered and was downtown in good spirits the night before his death and retired as usual feeling well; but before morning he was dead. The doctor states that he died from an affection of the liver. He leaves a wife to mourn her loss. Notice of the funeral will appear in tomorrow’s issue.
