Norfolk Landmark August 9, 1898
The many friends of Mrs. Davis, the wife of Mr. Leroy W. Davis, were deeply 
grieved to hear of her sudden death, which occurred at her cottage at Ocean View 
about 7 o’clock Sunday morning. Mrs. Davis, with her family, were spending the 
Summer at the View, apparently in the best of health. Saturday evening she was 
taken ill and, notwithstanding the most strenuous efforts by five physicians, 
the end came the next morning.
The deceased was a lady possessing many of those lovable qualities which 
endeared her to all. She was well-known and exceedingly popular. She leaves, 
besides a devoted husband, four children to mourn her loss. Her remains were 
brought to her home in this city, No. 233 York street, yesterday, from which 
place her funeral will take place this afternoon at 5 o’clock.
