W. Davis, died at the residence of his parents, in Charlotte street, yesterday afternoon, after a lingering illness. Mr. Davis was about 21 years of age and a very popular young man. This is the third grown child these bereaved parents have lost in the past three years. Yesterday afternoon at 4 o’clock, the funeral of Mr. Herbert N. Davis took place from the Freemason Street Baptist Church. The services were largely attended, there being in the gathering many employees of the post office, in which institution the deceased had in life been a most efficient clerk. The Rev. Dr. M. B. Wharton, pastor of the church, paid a high tribute to the life and character of the young man, whom none knew but to love. The Rev. E. E. Dudley, of Central Avenue Baptist Church, assisted Dr. Wharton in the services. At their conclusion, the remains were conveyed to Elmwood Cemetery, where the interment took place. The following young gentlemen were pallbearers: W. W. Henley, Frank Miller, J. P. Earnest, S. J. Anderson, J. C. Parker, D. W. Coates, J. R. Ellis and Page Butt.
