Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, August 1, 1999 
Leonea Elizabeth Vines Davis, formerly of the 1000 block of Billings St., passed
gently and peacefully into eternal rest on Friday evening, July 30, 1999, in a
local nursing home.

She was a native of Norfolk and the daughter of the late Julius B. and Ruth
Breedlove Vines. She was the widow of Moses S. Davis.

She was retired from the Day Care Center at First Baptist Church Lamberts Point
where she also held her membership and was active in many phases of the life of
the church. She was an usher and secretary for the Sunday school for 62 years
and a member of the Excelsior Lodge No. 82, Order of the Eastern Star.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Ruth E. Phipps and her husband,
John D. Phipps IV; a grandson, John D. Phipps V; and a host of nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends. And a special thanks to Clarence and Vanessa
Whitehurst for their caring and loving acts of kindness during the illness of
our mother.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday at First Baptist Church Lamberts
Point by the Rev. Anthony C. Paige. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery .
Viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Riddick Funeral Service,
Norfolk Chapel. A wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
