She was also known as ``Aunt Kitty.'' Born in Philadelphia, Pa., she was a retired cosmetologist from Polly Thornton Leading Lady Salon with 35 years of service. She was predeceased by her parents, Helen Jackson and the Rev. Morris Carroll and was reared by Lillian Bailey Sherrod. She was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk, and participated in the Women's Missionary Union (WMU) and the Norfolk Area Missionary Council. She was a member of the Hunter Square Garden Club, Hunter Square Advisory Council, Block Security Watch Program and Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority Leadership Program. Mrs. Davis received several awards including the NRHA's Fifth Annual Volunteer Recognition Award for Humanitarian Service; WAVY TV-10 Recognition for Outstanding Volunteer Service in the Community from the American Institute of Public Service; and first-place awards for Norfolk Senior Olympics. The widow of Chauncey Davis, she is survived by a sister, Josephine Bragg, and a brother, Harold R. Payne, both of Norfolk; grandparents, John and Mary Carroll; a favorite nephew and his wife, Lee Arthur ``Butch'' Sherrod Jr. and Sandra Sherrod; two favorite nieces, Margaret Brooks of Wilmington, Del., and Cynthia Harris of Norfolk; and a special niece, Regina Darden of Virginia Beach. A funeral will be held at noon Wednesday at Second Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. Geoffrey V. Guns. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . A wake service will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Hale Funeral Home.
