Funeral services from the above residence FRIDAY at 12 o'clock. Interment private. ************** The death of S.S. Dawes at his home, No. 212 Boush Street, at 12:20 o'clock p.m. yesterday removed from the walk of Norfolk life one of its oldest landmarks. The deceased was in his 86th year. He was at one time treasurer of the city, which brought him in close and constant intercourse with the business men of Norfolk and as such was one of its best known and most highly esteemed citizens. Mr. Dawes was, during his life, in addition to being treasurer of Norfolk, a member of the council, of the street, sewered and drain board and was for four years in the customs house. He was a member of Pickett-Buchanan Camp. His funeral will be held from his late residence at noon Friday. *********************************************************************** The funeral of the late Samuel S. Dawes was held from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. T.H. Browne, No. 212 Boush Street, at noon yesterday and was largely attended by the friends of the deceased. Pickett-Buchanan Camp, Confederate Veterans, of which Mr. Dawes was a member, attended the obsequies in a body as a mark of esteem to their dead comrade. The service was conducted by Rev. Robert Gatewood, D.D., of the Episcopal Church, and the interment was in Elmwood Cemetery. The pallbearers were as follows: C.J. Jones, F.E. Nottingham, R.C. Browne, W.C. Cobb, L. Drewry, A.R. Stansbury, Henry Wales and Charles Wales.
