Norfolk Virginian, September 3, 1869
DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN - It is with extreme regret that we announce this 
morning the death of our respected fellow citizen, Purser John DeBree, who 
breathed his last at 11 o'clock yesterday morning after a long and painful 
illness. The deceased was one of our oldest citizens and is lamented by all 
who knew him. The funeral will take place at 5 o'clock this evening from his 
late residence, No. 117 East Main Street.
