Decker, 88, joined her family in heaven on June 25th, 2024. Born on April 5th, 1936, near Abingdon, VA, Ruby was the second eldest of eight siblings. After moving to the great City of Norfolk as a young woman, Ruby met & fell in love with her husband of 59 years, Joseph M. Decker, II, until his passing in 2019. Ruby was a loving wife, mother, aunt, sister & friend but it was the children in her life that she cherished most. So, when it came time to choose a career later in life, it was no surprise she picked what she did best-teaching children. She served as a teacher's assistant in the Hampton Roads area for over 20 years until her retirement. When Ruby was on your side, it made you feel like you had an "army in your corner." For decades, Ruby hosted the popular Friday Happy Hours in her home, seated around "Joe's Bar." She loved making amazing Lebanese meals for crowds of hungry family members. Those who knew her, knew that her makeup was always on point and she loved a good fried oyster. She was a lifelong member of Norfolk's Catholic community, a member of the Ocean View Democratic Club and a supporter of Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital & Shriners Hospital. Ruby is survived by her two daughters, Theresa Atkinson & Jackie Corletto (Tony), grandsons Ryan Atkinson (Kacee), Derek Atkinson (Kathleen), & Rocco Corletto; four great-grandchildren Peyton, Scout, Decker, & Miles Atkinson, brother Bobby Inscore (Mildred), sister Tanni Inscore, sister-in-law, Bess Decker and dozens and dozens of beloved nieces, nephews & cousins, whom all held a special place in her heart. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM on July 10th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. A private graveside burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to Pete Decker's Children's Charity.
