Mr. Decker was a native of Norfolk and was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Norfolk. Mr. Decker retired as deputy police chief of Norfolk in 1977 after 35 years service with the city. After retirement he went on to serve as a magistrate for the city, performing thousands of marriages in the area. He attended numerous police schools, and was a graduate of the FBI National Police Academy. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Knights of Columbus and longtime active member of the Ryan Club of Norfolk. Survivors include his wife, Polly M. Decker of Melbourne, Fla.; his daughter, Jane D. Sterner of Norfolk; three sons, Dennis Decker and his wife, Myrtle, of Melbourne, Stephen E. Decker and his wife, Connie, of Immokalee, Fla., Edward Decker of Twin Falls, Idaho; a sister, Lillian Cornett of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Melvin P. Decker and his wife, Sarah, of Norfolk, Alfred Decker and his wife, Shirley, of Norfolk, Robert Decker and his wife, Shelby, of Leesburg, Va.; and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Father Julian B. Goodman. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. today in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Memorial donations may be made to the Ryan Club Endowment Fund, c/o Aubrey H.
