NORFOLK - Charles "Crab Leg" Deering Jr., 70, of the 1000 block of Merrimac 
Ave., was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Jan. 29, 2010. He 
was born Sept. 24, 1939 to the late Marvin and Charles Deering Sr. in 
Williamson, W.Va. 


He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Deering ; one daughter, 
Jackie Bland (Bill); five sons, Charles III (Priscilla Curtis), Christopher, 
Sharod, Trent and Terry Deering ; six sisters; six brothers; seven 
grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and 
friends. 


A funeral will be held at noon Friday at St. Joseph AME Zion Church, 1540 
Atlantic Ave. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and 
friends will assemble at 2718 Mapleton Ave. one hour prior to service for 
procession to the church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. 
today at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby Chapel. Condolences may be
