Norfolk Virginian December 2 & 16, 1876
DEATH OF A WELL-KNOWN CITIZEN — We regret exceeding to be called upon to 
announce the death of Mr. Robert DeJarnette, of this city, who died on Wednesday 
last about one o’clock, after a protracted illness. His remains have been 
removed to Caroline county, where they will be interred in the family burying 
ground. Mr. DeJarnette has for a long time been a well-known and highly esteemed 
citizen of Norfolk and leaves many friends to mourn his loss. He was a brother 
of Hon. D. C. DeJarnette, of Caroline.

repairs, which have been going on for the past four weeks and which have 
prevented public worship in the building for that length of time, will be 
finished by tomorrow, Sunday, when services will be held at 11 a.m. by the Rev. 
J. M. Trible, the regular preacher, and at 4 p.m., the funeral of R. E. 
DeJarnette, Sr., will be preached, when the friends and acquaintances of the 
deceased are respectfully invited to attend.
