David was born in Norfolk and was the son of the late Cherry Frances Butler Delk and Joseph R. Delk. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dorothy Gatewood Delk, his brother, James R. Delk and his stepmother, Bainer F. Delk. He was employed with The Virginian-Pilot newspaper as a pressman for 38 1/2 years. He was a graduate of Maury High School, Class of 1963. He loved his hobby of printing and working on his many basement projects and spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed and loved by all. Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Patricia Gatewood Delk of Norfolk; his two daughters, Patricia L. Delk of Silver Spring, Md., and Melissa L. Delk of Norfolk; his son, David L. Delk Jr. and wife Betsy A. Delk of Wheeling, W.Va.; his two sisters, Barbara D. Thompson and husband Billy of Chesapeake and Frances D. King and husband Paul of Suffolk; his brother, Thomas Delk and wife Phyllis of Poquoson; his brother-in-law, Tommy Gatewood and wife Vicky of Jacksonville, Fla.; his granddaughters, Abigail E. Delk and Emma M. Delk; a stepsister, Franes Davila; his uncle, John Leslie Delk; many nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friends, Jane and Preston Basnight and Mary Anne and George Fausel and his Sara "Fran Fran." A chapel service will be held Friday at 4 p.m. with interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters or Cerebral Palsy Association.
