The unfortunate man was employed on a barge by Captain Casey and was engaged in his duties when the accident occurred. A heavy piece of machinery was being raised when the boom broke. In falling, it struck DeMaio on the top of his head, crushing the skull and killing him instantly. The deceased had been a resident of Norfolk for many years. He is survived by a wife and nine children. The body was turned over to E. L. Cox, undertaker, who, after preparing the body for burial, carried the same to his home, No. 51 Virginia Street, Norfolk. Dr. F. M. Morgan, county coroner, deemed an inquest unnecessary. SORROWING FRIENDS PAID TRIBUTE TO CARMINE DEMAIO Funeral services over the remains of Carmine DeMaio, who was killed while at work on a barge Monday afternoon, in Berkley, were held yesterday afternoon from his late residence, 51 Virginia Street. The obsequies were attended by the Italian Benevolent Society, Black Hawk Tribe of Red Men, Norfolk Aerie of Eagles and the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association, of which he was a member. t The funeral was one of the largest that has been held here for some time. Rev. Father Walsh conducted the services at the grave in St. Mary's Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Honorary - J. Scellato, J. Caprio, N. Granata, A. Purpura, V. Cacace, E. Lorenzo, A. Parati, G.
