Mrs. Demaio, a native of England, served as the first president of the home's Women's Auxiliary. She also served as chairman for many fundraising committees at St. Mary's. She was a past president of the Women's Democratic Club of Norfolk and the Women's Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 392. Mrs. Demaio, the widow of Louis Joseph, had spent many hours as a volunteer at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk. She was a member of the hospital's Women's Auxiliary and Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Survivors include three granddaughters, Linda A. Demaio and Lois D. Smith, both of Norfolk, and Barbara A. Carian, of Virginia Beach; a grandson, Michael L. Demaio of Virginia Beach; and a great-grandchild. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, where the family will be until 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Lee's Friends-Oncology Patients or the American Heart Association.
