The Norfolk Virginian Pilot August 12, 1951
Portius Deming, Sr, 89, retired commission merchant, died yesterday at 3:50 
p.m. at his residence, 869 West Ocean View Avenue. He had been in failing 
health several years.
His sons, Portius Deming, Jr., and Warren H. Deming, operate the Deming Supply 
Company, an automotive parts supply firm.
A native of Norfolk, his late parents were Edward Calvin and Mrs. Frances 
Ghiselin Deming. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Nellie Pool Deming. 
Besides his two sons, surviving are one daughter, Mrs. D.C. Cannon; two 
sisters, Misses Annie and Lucie Deming, all of Norfolk, and six grandchildren. 
The body will be taken from the Cox Funeral Home to Elmwood Cemetery for 
funeral services at the grave today at 4 p.m. by Dr. Frank L. Wells, pastor of 
the Riverfront Methodist Church.
