Virginian-Pilot June 18, 1917
Mrs. Gertrude Louise Dennis, wife of John Dennis, died yesterday afternoon at 
12:05 o’clock at a local hospital, following a short illness. Mrs. Dennis was 51 
years old. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. R. J. Rowland and 
Misses Alice and Laura Dennis, and five sons, W. M. Dennis, C. H. Dennis, J. A. 
Dennis, C. O. Dennis and O. D. Dennis, all of Norfolk. The funeral will take place 
tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. R. J. 
Rowland, 716 Woodis avenue, and will be conducted by Rev. F. W. Putney of Central 
Baptist church.
