Norfolk Virginian Pilot Friday December 6, 1940
John D. Dennis, aged 78, died at the residence of his son, W.M. Dennis, 727 
Maltby avenue, last night at 7:45 o'clock after an illness of two months. He 
was a native of Norfolk, having resided here all his life and was widely 
known. He was employed in the Municipal Building. Surviving him the five 
sons, W.M., C.H., J.A., C.O. and O.D. Dennis; one daughter, Mrs. R.A. 
Bastian; one sister, Mrs. Charles Minter, and 12 grandchildren.
The body was removed to the funeral chapel of James V. Derry, Colley and 
Harrington avenues, pending funeral arrangements.
