Norfolk Landmark March 22, 1898
Mr. George H. Derring, formerly a well-known commission merchant and, at the time 
of his death, bookkeeper for the McIntyre Furniture Company, died at his home, 
corner Claiborne and Rose avenues, Sunday night at 10 o’clock from cerebro-spinal 
meningitis. Mr. Derring was 36 years old and had a host of friends in this city. 
He was a native of Surry county but had been a resident of Norfolk for several 
years, having been a consistent member of Park Avenue Baptist Church. The deceased 
leaves a wife and several children. The funeral will be private.
