Mr. DeWeese was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Davie County, N.C. He was the son of the late Lala Ferebee and C. Sloan DeWeese Sr. He attended Lees McCrae Jr. College and N.C. State Architectural School. In 1942 he served in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman first class in the South Pacific, New Guinea, Philippines, on LSTs and LCIs. In 1951 he moved to Virginia Beach and worked at Cofers for 12 years and then opened Sloan DeWeese Interiors in 1966. Survivors include a nephew, Stephen Davis Frazier and his wife Elizabeth Ross and their daughter Elizabeth Ferebee Frazier, and a niece, Kim DeWeese Frazier, all of Raleigh, N.C. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel, by Dr. J. Shepherd Russell. Burial will be private at a later date in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
