Dey, aged 17 years. Mysterious are the dispensation of Providence. Life’s journey just begun-ere hope had lost it’s rich, romantic hues-ere the bright promises of youth, had been realized-an affectionate , dutiful son, a kind, loving brother, a warm devoted friend, has suddenly been snatched away. The “insatiate archer” has stricken from a happy circle (graciously unbroken by war’s dire ravages) a loved member- a bright ornament. A gentle, affectionate disposition, retiring, unassuming manner, a generous enthusiasm, unswerving rectitude of character, endeared him to all. “None knew him but to love him, None named him but to praise.” We shall miss him-oh! How sadly! His memory shall be the shrine of pleasant thoughts, and when we reflect upon his many virtues-the hopes he breathed in death-the calm serenity on his deathbed- we are happy in the assurance-“not lost, but gone before.” “Weep not for him: it was not his to feel The miseries that corrode amassing years; Victorious over death, to him appears The vista’ d joys of Heaven’s eternal years Weep not for him.” May He who tempers the winds to the shorn lamb, in this affliction administer balm to the bleeding hearts of the distressed family.
