Russell Dey - His Funeral Services Yesterday At 4 o'clock Sunday morning, W. Russell Dey, a prominent young man and esteemed citizen, passed away after an illness of about a week. He had been sick of typhoid fever, which developed into peritonitis, and his death came with a great shock to his family. He was but little past his majority and leaves a young wife, to whom he had been married only about eight months. He was the son of Mr. James B. Dey and was a clerk in Burruss' Bank. He was a member of the Norfolk Light Artillery Blues, being a non-commissioned officer. The flag of that company was at half-mast in respect to his memory, while George W. Dey & Son's office and Burruss' Bank were draped. Funeral services over his remains took place at 5 p.m. from his residence in the presence of an immense assemblage of sorrowing friends and the Blues, the City Guards and the Lee Rifles, who marched to the scene, down Main and Granby, while the Fourth Regiment band played the funeral march. The obsequies were conducted by Rev. A.S. Lloyd, of St. Luke's P.E. Church, assisted by Rev. M.B. Wharton, D.D., of the Freemason Street Baptist Church and the interment took place in Cedar Grove Cemetery. By request of the deceased the Blues turned out in white coats, the former uniform of the company. The pallbearers consisted of four of the associates of the deceased from Burruss' Bank, two members of the Blues and one each from the Guards and Rifles. The Blues fired a salute over the grave.
