DEY, INSURANCE MAN DIES, AGED 71 Funeral Services To be Held Tomorrow At 3 P.M. Calvert Rogers Dey, 71, a prominent Norfolk insurance man and lifelong resident of this city, died last night at 8:15 o'clock at a local hospital. Owner of the George W. Dey and Sons, General Insurance Agency, he was also active in the religious affairs of the city. Many times he served as senior warden and vestryman at the Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church, of which he was a member. Born in Norfolk on April 21, 1877, Mr. Dey received his early education at William R. Galt's School and the Norfolk Academy. He earned his Ph. D. from the University of North Carolina in 1896. A few months later he was appointed special agent and adjuster for the Liverpool and London and Globe Insurance Company, Ltd. His territory covered Virginia and North Carolina. In 1911 he returned to Norfolk to rejoin the partnership of George W. Dey and Sons, which has represented the Liverpool and London and Globe Company since 1899. He had been associated with the firm ever since and was its owner at the time of his death. Mr. Dey also served as secretary-treasurer of both Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Inc., and the Endowment of St. Paul's Church, Elizabeth River Parish, Inc. Besides holding the office of president of the Norfolk Association of Insurance Agents and also the Virginia Association of Insurance Agents during his career, he was a member of the board of trustees of the Ballentine Home for the Aged and the Norfolk Academy. He held membership in the Virginia Club, the Princess Anne Club, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Ruth Lodge, A.F. and A.M., Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Theta Nu Epsilon and the Order of Gimghoul at the University of North Carolina. He was the son of the late George W. Dey and Mrs. Mary Jane Toy Besides his wife, Mrs. Margaret Stuart Dey, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Meade G. Stone and Miss Mary Calvert Dey; two grandsons, Meade G. Stone, Jr., and Stuart Calvert Stone; a sister, Mrs. C.L. Whichard, all of Norfolk and one brother, Dr. William M. Dey, of Chapel Hill, N.C. The body will be taken from the residence, 916 Blow Street to Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church for funeral services tomorrow at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Moultrie Guerry, the rector, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
