Anthony N. Diaz, 93, died June 27, 2003. Mr. Diaz was a native of Tampa, Fla., and 
was the widower of Rose Lee Bashara Diaz.

He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served 30 years with the Medical 
Service Corps. He received his commission as an ensign during World War II, and 
retired as a lieutenant, serving most of his naval career on carriers. He was 
onboard the USS Saratoga when it left Pearl Harbor before the December 7 attack, 
was one of the original crew members of the USS Intrepid and served aboard the 
Princeton during the Korean War.

Survivors include his daughter, Carmen Lee Masur, of Norfolk; two grandchildren, 
Christopher Gitzelmann, M.D., Stephanie Hintermann; and two great-grandchildren, 
Jennifer and Joey Lee Hintermann.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic 
Cemetery by Father Edward Richardson. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, 
is in charge.
