The Virginian Pilot Wednesday September 7, 1960
Mrs. Lydia Herbert Diehl, 82, widow of William Newton Diehl and daughter of 
Maxmillian and Mrs. Eugenia Briggs Herbert, died in a Norfolk hospital 
Tuesday at 2:25 p.m.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Samuel C. Wester of Norfolk; a brother, 
Bennett B. Herbert of Plymouth, N.C., and Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. James 
R. Peake Sr. of Norfolk, and Mrs. Harry S. Davis of Asheville, N.C.; a 
grandson, William Diehl Wester, and a granddaughter, Nancy Eugenia Wester.
Mrs. Diehl was a charter member of Park Place Methodist Church and a member 
of the Ladies Bible Class and the WSCS.
A native of Southampton County, she had been a resident of Norfolk for 65 
years, at 409 W. 29th Street.
A funeral service will be conducted in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Thursday 
at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, 
contributions may be sent to the WSCS of Park Place Methodist Church.
