Norfolk Virginian Pilot June 8, 1942

Bernard Oliver Diggs, aged 52, husband of Mrs. Minnie Wade Diggs and son of the 
late William Joseph and Mrs. Margaret Carter Diggs, died at a local hospital 
last night at 10:15 o'clock. Mr. Diggs, a native and lifelong resident of 
Norfolk, resided at 527 Rhode Island Avenue, Colonial Place, at the time of his 
death. Besides his wife, Mrs. Minnie Wade Diggs, he is survived by two sisters, 
Mrs. T. J. Reilly and Mrs. S.W. Fulford, both of Norfolk; one brother, H.B. 
Diggs, of Baltimore and two nephews, Thomas J. Reilley and Charles P. Fulford, 
both of Norfolk.
The body was taken to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1601 Colonial Avenue, 
pending arrangements.

Bernard Oliver Diggs — Funeral services for Mr. Diggs, who died Sunday night at 
a local hospital, were held yesterday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Mary’s 
Catholic Church, with the Rev. P. C. Blackburn, pastor, officiating. The Rev. F. 
V. Bambrick, the Rev. Paul V. Heller, and the Rev. R. B. Kealey were present in 
the sanctuary. At the conclusion of the mass, the Rev. Paul V. Heller spoke on 
the doctrine of the Catholic faith. Several selections were rendered during the 
service by the choir of St. Mary’s Academy, with Mrs. Joseph Lex as organist. 
Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The pallbearers were George W. Mayo, 
Herbert J. Gerst, Sol E. Tischler, Marcellus Roberts, G. M. Birsch, E. S. 
Horner, C. E. Cheshire, W. A. Hogg, Jr. and John M. Durham.
