She was the wife of J. Eugene Diggs, prominent Norfolk attorney. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Otis J. Wynn, pastor of the church. He was assisted by the Rev. J. B. Henderson, pastor of Bank Street Baptist Church. The eulogy was delivered by the Rev. B. B. Evans of Cincinnati, OH, former pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church. Music was furnished by the church choir under the direction of Mrs. Bernadine Raspberry, organist. The active pallbearers were Hilary H. Jones Jr., and Victor J. Ashe, Norfolk lawyers; Victor Diggs, Carroll Diggs, Washington Dudley and Frederick Dudley. The honorary pallbearers were members of the Twin City Bar Association. A native of Norfolk, Mrs. Diggs was the daughter of the late William E. and Mrs. Sarah J. Quetrell. She attended the public schools in Norfolk, Norfolk Mission College, and was a graduate of Corey Memorial Institute in Portsmouth. She studied later at Hampton Institute, St. Paul’s School and the Norfolk Division of Virginia State College. Mrs. Diggs was active in the civic and educational life of the community. She was a teacher in the Norfolk school system. Her first position was at the J. H. Smythe School. She was on the staff at the Laura E. Titus School at the time of her death. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church. the deceased was also a member of “The Pearls,”, a social club. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Diggs is survived by a foster daughter, Mrs. Jessie Adams Lewis, Little Rock, AR; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Q. Dancy and Mrs. Blanche Q. Dudley, both of Norfolk; five nephews, Moses M. Dudley, William Q. Dudley, Washington W. Dudley, Frederick Dudley and Elbert Dudley, all of Norfolk; four nieces, Mrs. Verna D. Ridley, Newport News VA; Mrs. Elsie D. Coleman, Mrs. Millie D. Bryant and Mrs. Yvonne D. Greene of Wayne University, Detroit, MI, several cousins and other relatives. The funeral arrangements were under the joint direction of Riddick’s Funeral Service and King’s Funeral Home. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.
