Medical Examiner, Dr. Faruk B. Presswalla, said it "appears that she died of an irregular heart beat which would cause sudden death." He denied reports that she might have died from a blow on the head. "We did not find anything like that," he said after an autopsy. "We will continue to screen for other things, however." School officials said Miss Digmann and her classmates were playing softball in the gym. Miss Digmann batted the rolled up gymsuit that students were using for a ball, and collapsed shortly after running 30 to 40 feet to first base. The gym teacher administered mouth to mouth resuscitation while students called paramedics and the school's two nurses,
school officials said. "She was breathing with some difficulty at first. They worked on her about 30 minutes and then took her to Norfolk General," said Gilbert A. McLeod, the school system's public relations director. Miss Digmann was the daughter of Mrs. Lena Digmann of 1628 Morris Ave. in the Winona section, and Alvin Digmann, address unknown. She lived with her mother, who has eight other children, school officials said.
