Mrs. Dillard went to bed at 5 o’clock yesterday morning, after eating a luncheon which she had ordered from a restaurant. Gracie Crawford, the only other occupant of the house, slept with her and was awakened at 2 o’clock in the afternoon to find her companion in convulsions. Dr. Holladay, when summoned, found her dying, though death did not ensue until 4 o’clock. It was the opinion of the doctor that the symptoms of the case resembled carbolic acid poisoning or the effects of concentrated lye, which the supposed suicide must have taken while Gracie Crawford slept. Gracie claims there was no carbolic acid, concentrated lye or any other poison in the house. Except that Mrs. Dillard had been on a spree, she knew no reason why she should take her life. Dr. Holladay gathered up the remains of Mrs. Dillard’s lunch and this will probably be subjected to analysis. The dead woman separated from her husband, Charles Dillard, about six months ago. She was about 28 years of age and leaves a number of children whom she succeeded some time ago in having placed in respectable homes. Mrs. Dillard’s family lived at Virginia Beach. Her name before her marriage to Dillard was Jennie Kite.
