Norfolk Ledger-Dispatch May 2, 1917
Mrs. Mary E. Dircks, widow of Richard A. Dircks, died early yesterday morning, at 
her home, 1210 W. 38th street, after a protracted sickness, aged 70 years. She was 
a native of North Carolina, had lived here 25 years, and was well-known and highly 
esteemed. The funeral occurred at H. C. Smith’s funeral apartments at 3 p.m. 
today, and was largely attended, Rev. E. P. Miner, of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 
officiating. There were beautiful floral offerings. The burial was in Elmwood.
