Miss Dixon on Sunday dined with an uncle and while there went to visit a friend next door. Young Moses, who was present, picked up a gun which he thought was unloaded and the two began a scuffle for it. Dixon retained possession of it and put it on his shoulder to carry into another room. Hardly had he gotten it up, however, before it exploded, the load of shot taking effect in the young lady’s neck and throat, severing the windpipe and jugular vein and causing almost instant death. Dr. A. M. Heistand was called in but could do nothing for the suffering one. Justice George W. Leach held an inquest, and the jury retained a verdict of accidental shooting and exonerated Moses. The young lady’s funeral took place from Asbury M. E Chapel, in the village, yesterday afternoon and was very largely attended.
